Highlighters – The one's that highlight the importance.

We all have been through studying phases and we all have had problems running through the monotonous hypnotising pages of the books where all the same fonts of wordings that make it hard to scan through the typewritten letters. That's when Highlighters come into the interest of colourful studying or rather making every written matter interesting to read through.



A highlighter is a felt-tip pen which is used to draw attention to sections of documents by marking them with a vivid, translucent colour. A typical highlighter is fluorescent yellow, coloured with pyranine. Many highlighters come in bright, often fluorescent colours. Being fluorescent, their ink will glow under a black light although we must not mix the terms with LED lights although the idea of LED lighting has been derived from highlighters. Like said earlier, the most common colour for highlighters is yellow, but they are also found in pink, blue, green, orange, and purple varieties. Red highlighters can be purchased along with a green translucent sheet used to hide the highlighted material. Some yellow highlighters may look greenish in colour to the naked eye.



Highlighters are available in multiple forms including ones with a retractable felt tip or ones which have an eraser on the opposite end of the felt tip. Other types include the "trilighter," a triangularly-shaped pen with a different-coloured tip at each corner, and ones that are stackable, although their structure and invention is basically used to attract the attention of the younger ones and also make it safe and feasible for both parents and the children to handle the highlighters so as to have a bundle of three together, as children are prone to losing their belongings.



Dry highlighters occasionally called "dry line highlighters" are the ones that, instead of having a felt tip, have applicators that apply a strip of highlighter tape similar to audio cassette tape. Unlike standard ones, they are easily erasable. They are to be distinguished from dry marking highlighters, which are sometimes advertised as being useful for highlighting books with very thin pages. Artists have used highlighters including erasable highlighters, either alone or in conjunction with other products, to create pieces of artworks.



These color pens not only have their utilization in the field of education but also in the field or art and craft and similarly not only for adults but also for children, although due to the ink which can prove to be harmful for the children, many companies have now started supplying organic or non – toxic ink based highlighters which keeps the users stress free even if their child picks on the fluorescent pens. Other than that, highlighters are also used for creating memorable moments like writing on cards as they give a very appealing look, also in times of injuries especially fractures you may come across many plasters with notes of "get well soon" written on them. These highlighters are also used in festival banners in creative fields, especially art festivals where printing banners would be a not so creative task.
